Our Mission
United Nations Association (UNA) Pasadena/Foothills Chapter...
A Better World Starts Here

The mission of the United Nations Association (UNA) Pasadena/Foothills Chapter is to generate local awareness and support of the United Nations and its commitment to achieving global peace, justice and freedom.

The United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA) is dedicated to educating, inspiring and mobilizing Americans to support the principles and vital work of the United Nations, strengthening the United Nations system, promoting constructive United States leadership in that system, and achievement of the goals of the UN Charter.

Founded in 1947, the UNA Pasadena/Foothills Chapter fosters the goals of the UNA-USA on a local level.  With a membership that covers most of the San Gabriel Valley, Burbank, Glendale, and Northeast Los Angeles, UNA Pasadena/Foothills Chapter is one of the largest and most influential UNA-USA chapters in the nation.  Our members belong to a unique organization where informational, educational and cultural programs reach all ages.  A high priority for the Chapter is to raise awareness and encourage action on the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which are:

1) Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2) Achieve universal primary education
3) Promote gender equality and empower women
4) Reduce child mortality
5) Improve maternal health
6) Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
7) Ensure environmental sustainability
8) Develop a global partnership for development.

The United Nations Association Pasadena Foothills Chapter is proud to support and promote 34 Million Friends of the United Nations Population Fund and to help cofounder Jane Roberts coordinate her activities in support of this grassroots movement for the health and human rights of the women of the world.

UNFPA helps the most vulnerable women in the world plan their families, give birth safely, and protect themselves from HIV/AIDS.  It promotes gender equality in education for girls and works worldwide to eliminate gender-based violence. 34 Million Friends asks 34 million Americans for at least one dollar to make up for the $34 million  the current administration  refused to release in 2002. The total withheld now stands at  $200 million. The total raised as of 11-25-07 stands at $3,644,000.

UNFPA's  work in 140 countries is in direct support of the first six of the Millennium Development Goals and indirectly supports all  eight.  Please join us in supporting 34 Million Friends of UNFPA. www.34millionfriends.org . Show American support by becoming one of the 34 Million Friends and getting involved. People outside the United States (non-Americans) can donate at  http://www.unfpa.org/support/friends/34million.htm.
