A Better World Starts Here

The mission of the United Nations Association (UNA) Pasadena/Foothills Chapter is to generate local awareness and support of the United Nations and its commitment to achieving global peace, justice and freedom.

A high priority for the Chapter is to raise awareness and encourage action on the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which are:

1) Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2) Achieve universal primary education
3) Promote gender equality and empower women
4) Reduce child mortality
5) Improve maternal health
6) Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
7) Ensure environmental sustainability
8) Develop a global partnership for development.

	Message from Jane Roberts: Please Read Nicholas Kristof's and Sheryl Wudunn's crucially important book "HALF THE SKY: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide." It is a groundbreaking book which tells wonderful stories of women who triumph over incredible adversity to change their world and ours. 34 Million Friends plays a big part in chapter 8. A Kristof quote about Jane: "I tend to think that the great injustices of the kind we write about in `Half the Sky' will involve not only leadership from the White House and the UN but also from citizens like Jane Roberts in places like Redlands."
